Modak for Ganesh
Chaturthi
Ingredients
For outer covering
2 cup rice flour
2 tsp oil
2 cups water
a
pinch of salt
For filling
2 cups fresh coconut grated
1 1/2 cups jaggery
1
tsp cardamom powder
Method
For filling:
Grate the coconut. Crumble
the jaggery.
In
a thick bottomed pan, take the jaggery and add the coconut to it. Heat up the
stove.
Mix
the jaggery and coconut together and stir
continuesly.
Once
the jaggery is melted, Keep stirring
and let the mixture cook till the mixture becomes a little dry, add the cardamom powder and remove from the heat.
For outer cover of the Modak
Heat water in a deep pan, add salt and oil.
When water start boiling reduce the flame
and add
the rice flour and
stirring
continuously
to avoid lumps. Cover with a lid and keep aside for about 4-5
minutes.
Grease
your hands
with oil and knead the dough when it is still warm; once
it
cools it will get lumpy. Make 20 equal part with kneaded flour.
Now
roll one puri with one part and Place it in your palm and
and make cup now fill about 1 teaspoon coconut
filling into this cup. make 5-6 small pinches side by side on the outside edges
of the cup. Bring them together on top and join to form a peak. Your modak is
complete. This should look like a whole garlic pod.
Remove
the extra portion of the dough from the top.
Make
all the modaks this way.
Now boil water in a steamer and steam cook the modak
around 12-15 minuts.
Modak is ready for offering to Lord Ganesha.
